The origin of life is called Essence (Jing);

One who stores essence within essence is called a sage.

The sage dwells in harmony with Heaven and Earth, and follows the principles of the Eight Winds.

He adapts to cold and heat, balance joy and anger, live in peace, regulate Yin and Yang,and harmonize firmness and gentleness.

By living in such a manner, he can live as long as Heaven and Earth,with no end to their lifespan — this is the highest form of cultivation (Shàng Gōng).

The next skilled person: violent winds and storms cannot weaken his form,pathogenic Qi cannot invade, his hearing and vision remain clear, his sinews and bones are strong,and his Qi and blood do not leak.Even under severe winds and toxins, his not harmed.This is known as the middle-level practitioner (Zhōng Gōng).

The lower skilled person:

In spring, injured by wind, the pathogenic Qi lingers, causing chronic diarrhea;

In summer, harmed by heat, it leads to malaria in autumn;

In autumn, injured by dampness, results in edema and abdominal fullness;

In winter, harmed by cold, it causes warm diseases in spring.

This is the realm of the lower-level practitioner (Xià Gōng),who may preserve life but cannot eliminate disease.

When illness is missed, it is often too late to treat—sometimes even unworthy of asking.

The Yellow Emperor said: Excellent.

I have heard that in ancient times, there were True Beings (Zhēn Rén) who uplifted Heaven and Earth, grasped the principles of Yin and Yang, breathed in the essence of Qi, stood alone in stillness and guarded their spirit.

Their flesh and mind were in harmony, and so they lived as long as Heaven and Earth, with no end to their time.

This is the state from which the Dao arises.

Next are the Sages, who dwell in the harmony of Heaven and Earth and follow the principles of the Eight Winds.

They fulfill their desires moderately among worldly affairs, hold no anger or resentment in their hearts,

live within society without being bound by it, and

in quiet obscurity, serve as models for all under Heaven.

Therefore, Yang Qi is like the sky and the sun—vital and illuminating.

If it loses its proper position or function, life will be shortened, and its brilliance will be diminished.

but when forcefully provoked, it leads to death.

They pursue the gratification of their hearts, defying the joy of natural life.

With erratic routines, they deteriorate by the age of fifty.

Affection and desires may be expressed freely.

This is how to follow the qi of summer and nurture the growth phase of life.

If you go against it, you harm the heart. In autumn, fevers and malaria may arise. The ability to collect energy will weaken, and by winter, serious illness may occur.

Let the mind be calm and at peace, so as to soften autumn’s harshness.

Gather and store the spirit, allowing autumn’s qi to settle within. Do not let the mind wander outward; preserve the purity of the Lung qi.

This is the way to follow the energy of autumn and nourish the phase of contraction.

If one goes against it, the Lung will be harmed. In winter, digestive issues like diarrhea may appear, and the ability to store essence will weaken.

In the three months of winter—known as the season of “closure and storage”—water freezes and the earth splits open.

One must not disturb the yang.

Sleep early and rise late, waiting for the sunlight before getting up.

Let the will be quiet, as if hidden or held within—private and content, as though one has already achieved fulfillment.

Avoid the cold and seek warmth. Do not let the skin sweat excessively, lest the yang qi be drained.

This is how one aligns with winter’s energy and nourishes the principle of storage.

If one acts against this, the Kidney will be harmed. In spring, weakness or numbness in the limbs may occur, and the capacity to generate new life will be diminished.


Thus it is said:

In spring and summer, one should nourish yang;

In autumn and winter, one should nourish yin.

Follow this natural order, and life will flourish.

Go against it, and death may follow.

Rebellion against the seasons gives rise to calamities and disease;

Alignment with them prevents severe illnesses from arising.

In the three months of summer—called “the season of flourishing”—heaven and earth’s energies unite, and all things blossom and bear fruit.

Sleep late and rise early. Do not resent the heat or the sunlight. Let your mind be calm and free from anger. Let your spirit bloom like flowers and allow your qi to flow outward.

Affection and desires may be expressed freely.

This is how to follow the qi of summer and nurture the growth phase of life.

If you go against it, you harm the heart. In autumn, fevers and malaria may arise. The ability to collect energy will weaken, and by winter, serious illness may occur.


 第三段《秋三月》

🍂 原文:

秋三月,此謂容平。

天氣以急,地氣以明。

早臥早起,與雞俱興,使志安寧,以緩秋刑,收斂神氣,使秋氣平,無外其志,使肺氣清。

此秋氣之應,養收之道也。逆之則傷肺,冬為飧泄,奉藏者少。

 拼音(簡音):

Qiū sān yuè, cǐ wèi róng píng.

Tiān qì yǐ jí, dì qì yǐ míng.

Zǎo wò zǎo qǐ, yǔ jī jù xīng, shǐ zhì ān níng, yǐ huǎn qiū xíng,

shōu liǎn shén qì, shǐ qiū qì píng, wú wài qí zhì, shǐ fèi qì qīng.

Cǐ qiū qì zhī yìng, yǎng shōu zhī dào yě.

Nì zhī zé shāng fèi, dōng wéi sūn xiè, fèng cáng zhě shǎo.

 

In the three months of autumn—called “the season of balance and containment”—heaven’s qi becomes brisk, and earth’s qi becomes clear.

One should sleep early and rise early, waking with the chickens.

Let the mind be calm and at peace, so as to soften autumn’s harshness.

Gather and store the spirit, allowing autumn’s qi to settle within. Do not let the mind wander outward; preserve the purity of the Lung qi.

This is the way to follow the energy of autumn and nourish the phase of contraction.

If one goes against it, the Lung will be harmed. In winter, digestive issues like diarrhea may appear, and the ability to store essence will weaken.


第四段《冬三月》

冬三月,此謂閉藏。

水冰地坼,無擾乎陽,早臥晚起,必待日光,

使志若伏若匿,若有私意,若已有得,去寒就溫,無泄皮膚,

使氣極奪,

此冬氣之應,養藏之道也。逆之則傷腎,春為痿厥,奉生者少。

Dōng sān yuè, cǐ wèi bì cáng.

Shuǐ bīng dì chè, wú rǎo hū yáng,

zǎo wò wǎn qǐ, bì dài rì guāng,

In the three months of winter—known as the season of “closure and storage”—water freezes and the earth splits open.

One must not disturb the yang.

Sleep early and rise late, waiting for the sunlight before getting up.

Let the will be quiet, as if hidden or held within—private and content, as though one has already achieved fulfillment.

Avoid the cold and seek warmth. Do not let the skin sweat excessively, lest the yang qi be drained.

This is how one aligns with winter’s energy and nourishes the principle of storage.

If one acts against this, the Kidney will be harmed. In spring, weakness or numbness in the limbs may occur, and the capacity to generate new life will be diminished.


🌀 結語段(總論四時調養)

🏮 原文:

故曰:春夏養陽,秋冬養陰。

從其則生,逆之則死。

逆之則災害生,從之則苛疾不起,

是謂得道。

 

拼音(簡音):

Gù yuē: chūn xià yǎng yáng, qiū dōng yǎng yīn.

Cóng qí zé shēng, nì zhī zé sǐ.

Nì zhī zé zāi hài shēng, cóng zhī zé kē jí bù qǐ,

shì wèi dé dào.

 

Thus it is said:

In spring and summer, one should nourish yang;

In autumn and winter, one should nourish yin.

Follow this natural order, and life will flourish.

Go against it, and death may follow.

Rebellion against the seasons gives rise to calamities and disease;

Alignment with them prevents severe illnesses from arising.

This is called “attaining the Way.”
